A wine developed with our good friend Kiel Rogers of Garbage TV to commemorate our collaboration this vintage. Kiel has provided the majority of the epic graphic design work for our labels this year and so we thought it proper to make him a wine that he could flex with. Introducing POWERLIFT. A wine so powerful and unique that we thought our more trad labels might literally peel off of the bottle. Fortunately Kiel was able to design something so bold and brave that we have no doubt it will grip, much like how the overly callused, chalked up, perfectly-tanned hands of a IFBB Pro grips a barbell.
When we ventured down to the Oranje Tractor vineyard in Albany we realised that we might not have the ideal solution for hauling the organically grown merlot and savvy b back to the Valley. When in fact, we had the perfect solution, 1 bin of Savvy B,
1bin of Merlot and 1 bin of Savvy B AND Merlot. It was this final Nally that we decided to crush and co-ferment together and then press into a single seasoned old oak puncheon.
We then whipped up another puncheon of Shiraz farmed only a few kilometres from our vineyard in the Swan Valley by our good mate Garffff of Vino Volta fame.
Both components underwent elevage for 10 months in seasoned old oak.
We blent them together in December and bottled it all with zero additions of any kind.
(Okay... so potentially some Trenbolone found it's way into final blend too.)
The nose hits like smelling salts just before a PB. Green and red like red berries on he verge of ripeness. Stalky. Conjures up memories of a Herve Souhaut Gamay.
On the palate it is bold and electric. Super mineral and flinty with some splintery jarrah wood hip-thrusting through.
Raspberries, mildly under-ripe plum, red apple and quandong.
Puckering green astringency with bracing Bravo apple skin tannins.
A high energy, high tensile, powder-keg, fruit bomb.
Like any good lift it's controlled on the decline, fast on the incline and maximises hypertophy.
